Abstract:
Abstract Reinsurance is essentially an international business conducted by Lloyd’s, professional reinsurers (that is, companies specialising in reinsurance) and some direct insurers. It was estimated that in 1965 there were almost 200 professional reinsurers operating in the world (Neave, 1976, p. 55). The market has grown considerably since then. The bulk of the business is non-life, though life reassurance is transacted too.
