Abstract:
Abstract The main theme in Adam Smith’s classic The Wealth of Nations is self-interest, which its author considers to be the underlying motive of social and economic life. “It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer or the baker that we expect our dinner,” Smith wrote, “but from their regard to their own interest.”
