Chapter 4 in The Icelandic Financial Crisis, 2016, pp 103-138 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract On the morning of Wednesday, October 8, 2008, employees at Kaupthing Bank’s headquarters noticed a banner on the television screen mounted above them. The banner, from a Bloomberg broadcast, read: “ING Buys 3 Billion Pounds of Icelandic Deposits.” Soon, a large, solemn congregation stood in front of the screen, staring at the banner. It was the bank’s death sentence, writ large.
