Abstract: Abstract Rating systems are among the main innovations of the modern banking industry. Developed since the mid-1990s on the basis of a scheme that finds its definition in the working paper of the Basel Committee (BCBS, 1999), it is now possible to define more precisely the hallmarks of credit rating.
