Chapter Chapter 1 in Bank Competition and the Effects on Financial Stability, 2024, pp 1-5 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The growing literature on the stability of the banking system among developing countries primarily aim to demonstrate the stability in the banking sector of small emerging economies, all of which are vulnerable to global headwinds and economic distress. Any banking system in the world is vulnerable to deep economic problems arising from, for instance, a global pandemic. This book aims to form part of this body of literature. Using quarterly data from 2005 to 2019 from the open access database of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and subjecting these data to the appropriate estimation procedures, the stability, efficiency, and macroeconomic resilience of the universal and commercial banking industry of the Philippines, in spite of the global economic challenges, was empirically verified.
