Land and Institutional Reforms
Johan Swinnen
Chapter Chapter 12 in The Political Economy of Agricultural and Food Policies, 2018, pp 199-224 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Land rights and other institutions play an important role in agricultural development. Changes in land rights and other institutions have both growth and distributional effects. This chapter studies draws on several historical cases, including major political and economic reforms in the early and late twentieth centuries in Europe and Asia, as “natural experiments” to provide insights on the political economy of land and institutional reforms.
