Chapter Chapter 2 in Contract Farming in Developing Countries, 2025, pp 13-25 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter clarifies the definition of contract farming used in the book and provides a concise account of the recent history of contract farming and of its protagonists. Given that there is no systematic data globally on the reach and extent of contract farming, this chapter presents existing estimates of the prevalence of contract farming, especially in developing countries. The chapter concludes with a section focusing on the emergence and prevalence of contract farming in India.
