Chapter 7 in Business Under Crisis Volume I, 2022, pp 125-148 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The unprecedented severity of climate change led sport organisations to manage the natural environment where they select key resources. Accordingly, this chapter aims at investigating how outdoor sports and National Sports Federations (NSFs) manage climate crisis to enhance environmental concerns within the community. Adopting a qualitative approach, we sought to investigate the climate adaptation and the dependence on climate crisis of the Italian Sports Federations. The results were analysed through the Natural Resources Dependent Theory (NRDT) and allowed to emerge four main issues (infrastructures; human resources; financial stability; networks and partnership). Even if the sport alone cannot turn back the flow of climate change, it represents an essential player, able to reach great audiences and solutions.
