Chapter Chapter 10 in Non-Profit Organisations, Volume II, 2024, pp 219-244 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Healthcare organisations are forced to adapt due to relentless change and intense competition, pressured by shifting demographics, economic trends and policy changes, while striving to contain public healthcare costs. Digital transformation is emerging as a key survival strategy, but its implementation is only partial due to internal challenges and resistance. This chapter discusses the role of digital technology in driving significant organisational change to improve business processes and user experience, and to introduce innovative models for not-for-profit healthcare organisations. Through a comprehensive literature review and a qualitative pilot study, the chapter shows how digital strategies can be a critical leverage for survival, enabling organisations to thrive and deliver greater value to patients, thereby ensuring organisational sustainability in a volatile healthcare industry.
