Chapter Chapter 12 in Business in a Turbulent Era, Volume II, 2025, pp 291-311 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines the potential for fostering slow tourism in the Poľana Biosphere Reserve in Slovakia by analysing the area's characteristics, pertinent resources, statistical data, and practices from international biosphere reserves. The primary research revealed that the Poľana Biosphere Reserve has significant potential for the sustainable development of slow tourism, as it provides a varied selection of exceptional products and opportunities. However, it requires support from local and regional stakeholders, including government officials, entrepreneurs, and residents, as well as from central and regional authorities. We believe that gradual progress through slow tourism can address not only the socio-economic challenges of this area but also aid in transitioning the regional economy toward sustainable and resilient development.
