Chapter 11 in The Expanding Horizons of Business and Management, Volume I, 2026, pp 259-278 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Strategic management and strategic planning are important for the competitive situation and success of companies, although, we live in turbulent times, that are characterised by constant changes and a high volatility. Strategic planning approaches can support companies to increase their flexibility and ability to adapt to these dynamics. We have conducted a single case study of a large family firm to increase our understanding of the strategic planning approaches and procedures. We have found that the strategic planning approach appears quite formal but also in tendency operational. Our study contributes to the literature by providing an in-depth case and detailed information on the procedures, applied instruments as well as associated challenges of the strategic planning approach.
