Chapter 1 in The Expanding Horizons of Business and Management, Volume II, 2026, pp 1-26 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter critically reviews recent literature to examine how technological transformation, societal accountability, and policy dynamics contribute to reshaping contemporary business practices and organizational strategies. Adopting a critical review methodology, the chapter synthesizes recent research across the fields of business, management, innovation studies, and digital governance. The analysis identifies three key dimensions influencing the evolution of business systems: digital transformation and intelligent technologies, the growing societal demand for responsible and sustainable business practices, and the increasing role of governance and regulatory frameworks in guiding organizational behaviour. Building on these insights, the chapter proposes a conceptual framework illustrating the interconnected relationships between technological transformation, societal expectations, and policy dynamics. The findings also highlight the importance of adopting integrative and interdisciplinary perspectives in business and management research. By examining the interplay between technological innovation, societal responsibility, and institutional governance, the chapter contributes to a deeper understanding of how organizations navigate the expanding horizons of business in an increasingly complex and regulated global environment.
