Chapter 15 in The Expanding Horizons of Business and Management, Volume II, 2026, pp 361-382 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Virtual Reality (VR) is an immersive technology that holds considerable promise for organizational applications, yet adoption often encounters resistance. This study examines openness, awareness, and perceptions toward VR in engineering contexts. Data were collected from 56 managers and professionals using a structured questionnaire of 35 statements, and analyzed through Categorical Principal Component Analysis, Automatic Linear Modeling, and CHAID decision trees. Results show that VR awareness and exposure are primarily determined by education and prior hands-on experience, while adoption is strongly influenced by professional tenure and age. Perceptions of benefits and limitations are moderated by organizational size and professional background, with longer-tenured professionals demonstrating greater skepticism. Furthermore, outlook on future use and perceived institutional support vary with tenure and education. These findings highlight the role of contextual and demographic factors in shaping VR adoption and provide practical guidance for developing tailored engagement strategies to foster effective, sustainable integration of VR in engineering environments.
