Chapter 11 in Vilfredo Pareto: An Intellectual Biography Volume II, 2018, pp 261-271 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract His numerous teaching commitments in political economy did not diminish Pareto’s interest in sociological issues (Sects. 11.1, 11.2 and 11.3) (On Pareto’s early sociological thinking, Mornati (Vilfredo Pareto: An intellectual biography. Volume I. From science to liberty (1848–1891). Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan, 2018, pp. 169–171)), and he thus had no hesitation in returning an affirmative response to the faculty’s unexpected request to deliver a course in sociology, which was to form the foundation of his early work in developing what later emerged, with the Treatise on General Sociology, as a new conception of sociology (On this development in general, Valade (The birth of a new sociology (La naissance d’une autre sociologie). Paris: Presses Universitaires de France, 1990)).
