Abstract:
Abstract This chapter serves as the introduction part. It first elaborates why researching the status and role of merchants in the market and their relationship with the state in early modern China is important. Then it discusses the methodology to be used in this monograph. Within this part, the major schools of economic thought in Ming China will also be introduced.
