Chapter Chapter 8 in Joan Robinson in Princely India, 2022, pp 97-108 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter attempts to relate the experience of the Indian reality to Joan Robinson’s short-lived fascination for analytical optimism on return to England and subsequent pessimism about capitalist development in underdeveloped countries. It is argued that the earlier scepticism about the pace of industrial development in colonial India was the source of her later search for alternatives to capitalist industrialization.
