Chapter 2 in Luigi L. Pasinetti: An Intellectual Biography, 2018, pp 33-65 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Baranzini and Mirante reconstruct the youth and the 1950–59 years of undergraduate and graduate studies of Luigi Pasinetti. His family background is rebuilt, by evidencing his difficult youth characterized by the aftermath of the Second World War and by the early death of his mother. The authors portray his undergraduate studies in economics at the Catholic University of Milan, during which years Pasinetti had to combine work with study. In 1956, thanks to a British Council scholarship, he won a place at Gonville and Caius College at Cambridge, where, on and off, he would work for the next 20 years in close contact with ‘that unique group of scholars [Goodwin, Kahn, Kaldor and Sraffa in particular] in that unique intellectual environment that was the Cambridge of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
