Abstract: Abstract In Indonesia the objective of higher education as regulated in Law Number 12 of 2012 is to fulfill three different duties: teaching, research, and community service. In relation to the third duty, poverty is the most common problem in daily life could be addressed by access to higher education. To this end, some of the campuses in Indonesia have been managing Islamic philanthropy as a reflection of community service duty. This essay in turn aims to discuss the practice of Islamic philanthropy management in campus life. Data were collected by searching the campuses managing Islamic philanthropy. Purposive sampling was used for this study and qualitative data were used for analysis. The study revealed that the the management of Islamic philanthropy in campus life of some universities in Indonesia is of two types: those that establish Islamic a philanthropy organization from the top (leader), and others from the bottom (academician or student organization). Managing Islamic philanthropy in campus life is challenging and there are obstacles that are different from those facing an organization under the National Amil Zakat Agency in Indonesia.
