Chapter Chapter 19 in Islamic Philanthropy, 2022, pp 335-341 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The chapter summarises the findings from the previous chapters and presents an overview of how policymakers behave as partners and highlights notable successes and challenges in their ways of working to achieve development goals. There are several findings that can be derived from the book. First, the philosophical basis of Islamic philanthropy is the “duty” of worship as a creature of God. Second, some instruments of philanthropy are mandatory, others are voluntary. Third, Islamic philanthropic activities are influential in worship as a means to get closer to Allah, and socially, in another manner of worship of Allah, the instruments have influenced economic and social change in a positive direction. Fourth, the Islamic injunctions on pure altruism and philanthropy show that they can be used to mobilise development funds for effective and impactful utilisation in socio-economic development. There are also several policy recommendations that should be given a great deal of attention, especially to enable a better provision of philanthropy services. Among the policy recommendations are: literacy knowledge in philanthropy; best practice of philanthropy management and of a standard-setting body; mainstreaming the national agenda of Islamic philanthropy; and public policy responses to fintech.
