Chapter Chapter 10 in A New Balance of Payments for the United States, 1790–1919, 2021, pp 163-187 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Unilateral transfers are divided into private and government. Under private, there are immigrant remittances (divided into money transfers and prepaid tickets), migrant funds (immigrant and emigrant), head taxes (federal, state, and local), and miscellaneous items. Government transfers are traditionally foreign aid and reparations; but indemnities and territorial acquisition are the main items for the United States during the time period of this study.
