Chapter Chapter 15 in A New Balance of Payments for the United States, 1790–1919, 2021, pp 265-297 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Some 82 basic revenue series are generated, differentiated by travel group, passenger proportion, and per-passenger fare. This is a gigantic task, accomplished step-by-step with careful attention to detail. The outcome is U.S.-sailing-ship revenue, U.S.-steamship revenue, foreign-sailing-ship revenue, foreign-steamship revenue. Each of these series has two sub-series: revenue derived from U.S. residents and revenue from foreign residents.
