Chapter Chapter 2 in A New Balance of Payments for the United States, 1790–1919, 2021, pp 25-43 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract It is shown how the limitations of Historical Statistics and other studies are overcome. Also, the book takes advantage of numerous data sources not in predecessors, including available statistics neglected in the earlier studies, newly published data, and unpublished material to which the author was granted access. The importance of paper-dollar denomination and disaggregation is emphasized. New series developed in the book are described and the implications of the table for economic structure and specific sectors are outlined.
