Chapter Chapter 3 in The Cryptocurrency Market, 2025, pp 37-68 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter investigates how investors establish trust in information sources within the cryptocurrency market, addressing the research question: what factors shape investors’ trust in information sources when making cryptocurrency investment decisions? This study uncovers the layered trust-building process and the spectrum of information sources influencing these decisions through qualitative analysis of insights from fifteen cryptocurrency investors. Investors initially rely on social circles, online forums, and media platforms as exploratory tools, despite skepticism about their reliability. These sources act as starting points, leading to deeper investigations through credible platforms such as developers’ websites and established financial news outlets. This research highlights the critical role of trust-building mechanisms in cryptocurrency investments by mapping the transition from informal, social inputs to authoritative, analytical sources. This chapter contributes to the growing field of cryptocurrency studies by shedding light on the interplay between social influence, media reliance, and methodical research, offering insights for both investors and regulators in navigating this complex financial landscape.
