Abstract: Abstract The present chapter assesses the impact of the modifications of the Dutch port system on port competitiveness and different port organisational solutions. After reviewing the market development of the Dutch port system, Sect. “The Dutch Governance System” highlights the main critical issues of the current regulatory framework while Sects. “The Dutch Governance System”–“Conclusions” discuss the financial, operational, and organisational impacts of the chosen regulatory solutions, with a particular focus on the privatisation process and horizontal and vertical integration strategies of many ports in the region and how these strategies will affect future port development.
