Chapter Chapter 20 in Regulation and Finance in the Port Industry, 2022, pp 329-340 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The present chapter assesses the impact of the privatisation process of the UK port system on national port organisation and the balance between public and private goals in developing port assets. After reviewing, the port reforms occurred in the UK port system and the different port organisation solutions applied (public, trust, and private), section “The UK Port System” highlights the main critical issues of the current regulatory framework while section “Port Investment and Financing” focusses on the investment and financial-related critical issues within the current framework. Section “Port Operations” then links regulation, funding schemes, and UK port competitiveness; section “Conclusive Remarks” is dedicated to the concluding remarks and indications for future policy interventions.
