Limitations of State Support for Sustaining Steel
Vera Trappmann
Chapter 8 in Fallen Heroes in Global Capitalism, 2013, pp 162-175 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter, we will examine the possible support structures available to steelworkers from regional institutions. Against a general picture of the socio-economic situation in Malopolska, we analyse the existing institutions and instruments that might have impacted on steelworkers’ capacities to cope with restructuring and learn that support was mainly linked to (national) sectoral programmes and to some EU programmes in the labour market. We will therefore explore possible reasons for this shortcoming.
