Abstract: Durante los primeros meses del año 2001, la Unidad de Estadística Educativa del Ministerio de Educación del Perú se abocó a la producción de una serie de documentos sobre el estado de la educación peruana. Dicha tarea, favorecida por la creciente disponibilidad de información, tomó forma en un conjunto de textos breves que han sido acopiados en el presente volumen.
