Abstract: Supply chain performance measurement is the process of qualifying the efficiency and effectiveness of a supply chain. The complexity of a supply chain makes performance measurement difficult. The performance of supply chains is multi-dimensional and selecting the appropriate performance measures for a given supply chain presents challenges. This paper examines the various concepts and challenges of different supply chain performance metrics available in the literature. A structured approach to selecting performance metrics given the multi-dimensions of the supply chain is offered. Three primary dimensions of performance measurement have been identified: purpose (strategic, tactical, operational); supply process (plan, source, make, deliver); and type of metric (financial or non-financial). This approach allows selection of metrics that reflect performance of the entire supply chain processes and consistent with the strategic and operational goals of the entire supply chain.
