The report is devoted to the research of some results of economic and social development of the post-Soviet states and their mutual cooperation for twenty years of independence. On the basis of comparative analysis of the social and economic dynamics of the new independent states in 1991-2011 the authors make an attempts to answer the following questions: what has influenced the growth of the countries' economies in cardinally changed conditions, what role the Soviet heritage and the new realities - in particular, rapidly changing world and regional market condition - has played in this process, how the post-Soviet area has changed and what trends will determine its changes in the future. In the report an attempt to estimate the role of mutual cooperation in economic development of the post-Soviet states is made.
