Abstract:
This volume contains two papers about the impact of agricultural research on postharvest management and the postharvest requirements of the food processing sector. The first paper deals with the research and development (R&D) investment on the postharvest management for development of Southeast Asia. It presents the various clients of postharvest R&D and the holistic approach to addressing postharvest problems. The second paper features an overview on the postharvest requirements of the food processing sector and draws on the case studies of Lao PDR, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The paper is an offshoot of a Sub-Mekong and Malaysian Market Assessment Mission in 2000 for Development of the Philippine food processing industry of combined private and public representatives from the Philippines.
