Abstract:
This book features three papers presented in two seminars sponsored by SEARCA in 1996 as part of its commitment to effect a more focused strategy for agribusiness development and, consequently, agro-industrial development. Though first printed six years ago, the contents of these papers continue to be relevant in this new millennium as they touch competitiveness and sustainability. The first paper takes a look into policy environment and how such can be made more supportive of enhancing agribusiness competitiveness, put more emphaisi on sustainability and the corresponding agenda for action and research, this time on an expanded Asian perspective. The second paper looks into at enhancing sustainability from and agribusiness and development perspective, while the third paper advances sustainability from a resource management perspective. Both work within the framework that agribusiness development and natural resources management are major prerequisites of agro-industrial development.
