Abstract: This paper reviews some of the main issues revolving around the recent debate about exchange rate policy, centering on relationships among exchange rate flexibility, competitiveness, and financial discipline. The paper also looks at the implications of the debate for the formulation of exchange rate policy in the SEACEN countries.
