Abstract:
This paper provides a critical assessment to the role and contribution of the IMF in the IMF-programme countries. It addresses several questions frequently raised about the East Asian financial crisis, and assesses the impact of the IMF programmes rendered to several crisis-hit countries. It also offers some suggestions on the future role of the IMF and the international monetary system.
