Abstract: This paper builds on the materials prepared for the SEACEN Seminar on National Institutional Arrangements in Banking Supervision held in Taipei during 29-31 March 2000. It surveys the arrangements adopted by various countries to regulate banks and discusses the potential conflicts that may arise between concerned authorities in connection with different allocation of regulations. The paper also discusses how countries deal with these problems, including the reallocations of regulatory functions.
