Abstract: An attempt is made to assess and analyse the development and growth of foreign exchange markets in the SEACEN region, in addition to providing an overview of the structure and characteristics of exchange markets in the region. The paper discusses some basic conditions for active exchange markets, and the underlying economic constraints which hamper an orderly development of foreign exchange markets in the region.
