Abstract: Abstract The search for peacebuilding in post-conflict situations is inseparable from the quest for integral education. This is so, first, because integral education inculcates civility in the individual; and second, because peacebuilding begins with the individual, in the home, in people’s organizations, before spreading outward to the general society. This is why an ordered society is an external manifestation of an ordered soul. To highlight the need for an integral education as part of peacebuilding in Africa, this chapter focuses on instances of post-conflict peacebuilding in Nigeria. The content analysis of this chapter indicates that peacebuilding failed, during the three periods of the encounter between Nigeria and its leaders—colonial rule, military rule, and democratic rule—because of the lack of an independent judiciary and the police service. This is a symptom of a deficiency that integral education is intended to remedy. This chapter argues that the promotion of an independent judiciary, integral education, and an independent law-enforcement agency, would make a positive impact on the country’s post-conflict peacebuilding.
