Chapter Chapter 20 in The Fourth Industrial Revolution in Africa, 2023, pp 379-386 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter concludes the book Exploring the Development Implications of Smart Technologies in Africa: The Fourth Industrial Revolution in Africa. Positing the importance of 4IR technologies for various sectors of society, this chapter draws from the various findings and conclusions made by the various contributions in the book and argues that the future of African development lies in its ability to rapidly adapt and adopt new technologies. This chapter, however, acknowledges that the rate of technological adoption in Africa is slower due to the scarcity of financial resources to access these technologies. This chapter recommends that developed countries, most of which managed to develop at the expense of Africa due to slave trade and colonialism, need to take responsibility and commit to help Africa to meet its technological needs.
