A chapter in The Future of African-European Relations, 2025, pp 239-255 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter analyzes the potential, opportunities, and challenges of local energy transition in Tunisia and Morocco, through an analysis of success factors. Both countries have significant potential for renewable energies, particularly wind and solar, making them attractive to European investors. National strategies have been drawn up in Tunisia and Morocco to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in the future. However, differences exist in legal frameworks and the implementation of energy production projects. A common challenge in both countries is the lack of emphasis on local energy transition. This article highlights untapped potential and proposes recommendations to remedy this shortcoming.
