Abstract: Abstract Against the backdrop of global sustainable development, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) has become a core dimension of enterprises’ international competitiveness. As the backbone of China’s economy, central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) must balance home country policies and international standards in their internationalization drive. Their ESG governance capacity is crucial to their sustainable development capabilities and national image. This paper systematically reviews the current status of ESG governance of central SOEs in the context of internationalization, relevant theoretical frameworks, specific practical cases, and the positive effects of these practices. It further prospects the potential development trends of future ESG governance innovation, aiming to provide meaningful references for central SOEs to more effectively address ESG governance challenges and achieve sustainable development in their internationalization process.
