Abstract: Abstract The hotel industry significantly impacts the environment through energy consumption, water usage, waste generation, and carbon emissions. This study explores green practices in the hotel industry, focusing on selected large hotels in Dehradun, India. With increasing awareness of sustainable tourism, the adoption of environmentally friendly practices is not only a social responsibility but also a strategic advantage for hotels. Using a quantitative approach, this research assesses the implementation and effectiveness of green practices such as energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and the use of eco-friendly materials. Primary data was collected through surveys administered to 220 respondents, including hotel management and employees, alongside secondary data on operational sustainability. Findings indicate varying levels of green practice adoption, with factors such as cost, awareness, and government incentives influencing implementation. Hotels that have incorporated green practices report reduced operational costs and enhanced guest satisfaction. However, challenges such as initial investment costs and lack of expertise persist. This research highlights the potential for green practices to improve environmental sustainability while offering economic and reputational benefits to hotels. It also provides actionable recommendations for stakeholders, including tailored training programs for hotel staff and strategies for leveraging government schemes and public-private partnerships. By focusing on the case of Dehradun, the study contributes to the broader discourse on sustainable tourism in developing regions and offers insights for similar cities globally.
