Research on the Current Situation and Influencing Factors of Labor Participation of the Elderly in Shanghai

Abstract: Abstract In the context of Shanghai having entered a severely aging society, this article collates and analyzes the current status of the elderly population in Shanghai and the data on the labor participation rate of the elderly. It is discovered that the degree of aging in Shanghai is relatively high across the country, while the labor participation rate of the elderly is on the low side. The factors influencing the labor participation of the elderly are explored, and it is held that the labor participation of the elderly in Shanghai is mainly affected by factors such as old-age insurance, intergenerational support, and health, remaining at a relatively low level. Based on this conclusion, corresponding policy recommendations are proposed in this article from three aspects: expanding the demand for labor, increasing labor supply, and improving the work security for the elderly.
