Abstract:
Abstract With the development of digital economy, digital transformation has become an important issue globally, and ESG is a concept advocated by the United Nations to integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) responsibilities into the development model of enterprises in order to form a sustainable business model. Therefore, it is important to analyze the path to promote sustainable corporate development. Based on the panel data of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2013-2023, the article explores the impact of government digital attention on corporate ESG development. The study finds that the government’s digital attention has a significant role in promoting the environmental, social and governance aspects of corporate ESG development. Mechanism tests show that the government’s digital attention promotes ESG development by enhancing firms’ innovation capabilities. In addition, this paper also verifies the reliability of the results through robustness test and heterogeneity analysis, and finds that the ESG development of enterprises in the growth period is more significant after being concerned by the government. The findings provide theoretical basis and practical guidance for government policy making and corporate strategy.
