Abstract: Abstract This paper takes Volkswagen’s “Dieselgate” incident as an entry point to explore issues related to enterprises’ “greenwashing” behavior. Firstly, it introduces the general situation of Volkswagen and the typical “greenwashing” behavior of “Dieselgate”, that is, using cheating software to make vehicles meet the standards during inspection but exceed the emission standards during actual driving, resulting in many adverse consequences. Then, it deeply analyzes the causes of the “greenwashing” behavior, including the drive of market competition pressure, cost control and profit pursuit, regulatory loopholes, and internal management and cultural issues of enterprises. Subsequently, it puts forward suggestions for these problems, covering aspects such as increasing investment in and innovation of environmental protection technologies, improving the regulatory system, actively responding to supervision and strengthening information disclosure, and strengthening internal corporate governance. Finally, it points out the warning role of the “Dieselgate” incident, hoping to prompt enterprises to integrate the concepts of green environmental protection and sustainable development into their operations, promote the healthy development of the industry, gradually reduce the “greenwashing” behavior, and achieve a win-win situation for multiple benefits.
