Abstract:
Abstract Malnutrition among children under five remains a critical public health issue, particularly in rural areas of developing countries. This study examines the factors contributing to malnutrition among children aged 0-59 months in rural Pahang, Malaysia, using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The research follows the PRISMA guidelines, analyzing 50 selected peer-reviewed articles and relevant sources. Findings indicate that malnutrition is influenced by social, economic, and environmental factors. Social determinants, such as parental education, particularly maternal education, play a crucial role in child nutrition. Economically, low household income and unemployment contribute to limited access to nutritious food and healthcare. Environmentally, inadequate sanitation and lack of clean water exacerbate malnutrition risks. Children in rural areas are disproportionately affected due to limited healthcare access and lower health awareness among parents. Addressing malnutrition requires targeted interventions, including improved healthcare access, education, and economic support. The study aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) by emphasizing policies that integrate nutrition improvement with broader community development efforts. Future research should develop a comprehensive framework to address these factors and enhance child health outcomes in rural settings.
