From Paitua Program to Poverty Reduction: An Evaluative Study in Southwest Papua

Abstract: Abstract One of the Southwest Papua government’s initiatives in poverty alleviation is the PAITUA Program, specifically designed to support the elderly. This research aims to evaluate the PAITUA Program as a poverty reduction effort in Southwest Papua by focusing on the input, process, output, and outcome dimensions, according to Kettner & Martin (in Althous et. al, 2020). Data was collected through interviews and documentation studies using a qualitative approach and case study method. The results show that although the program has been well designed, there are infrastructure and accessibility challenges in implementation. Less than optimal socialization, limited data collection, and obstacles to assistance distribution. The PAITUA program’s output positively contributes by increasing beneficiaries’ purchasing power and consumption, especially the extremely poor elderly. The outcome of the PAITUA Program also has an impact on improving social solidarity among the community. The government of Southwest Papua needs to pay attention to the existing challenges to support the sustainability of this program.
