Abstract:
Abstract This study examines the challenges and solutions in translating Zhoushan’s marine folklore terms, focusing on cultural fidelity and technological adaptability. Current practices reveal significant semantic loss in culturally specific items and inefficiencies in machine translation. Through a tripartite methodology—terminological analysis, technical comparative experiments, and cross-cultural audience testing—the research identifies key issues: cultural distortion in official translations, technological limitations in handling metaphors, and inconsistent terminology. The study proposes a “technology empowerment-cultural adaptation” model, integrating AI-assisted tools (e.g., neural networks for metaphor recognition) and standardized terminology databases to improve accuracy. Cross-cultural strategies, such as domestication and transliteration with annotations, are recommended to balance cultural preservation and audience comprehension. Findings highlight the potential of new quality productivity (e.g., blockchain-based dynamic databases and AR-enhanced multilingual platforms) to transform folklore translation into a bridge for global marine cultural exchange. The paper concludes with policy recommendations, including localized translation guidelines and UNESCO certification, to ensure authenticity while leveraging digital advancements.
