Abstract: Abstract Digital payment systems (DPS) are transforming business transactions in emerging economies, yet their impact on supply chain performance (SCP) among small enterprises remains underexplored. This study investigates how DPS adoption enhances SCP in Accra, Ghana, and examines the mediating roles of supplier trust and collaboration. Guided by the Technology–Organisation–Environment framework, Transaction Cost Economics, and Trust Theory, a survey of 312 SMEs across retail, manufacturing, services, and agribusiness was analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). Results show that DPS adoption significantly improves SCP through efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness, with supplier trust and collaboration partially mediating these effects. The model explained 56% of the variance in SCP, underscoring the dual importance of technological adoption and relational governance. The study contributes by integrating digitalisation and trust-based perspectives within an African SME context. Practically, it highlights the need for reliable digital infrastructure and trust-building mechanisms. Limitations include its cross-sectional and single-city scope; future research should adopt longitudinal and cross-country designs.
