The Bali Development of Starling Conservation as a Tourism Destination

Abstract: Abstract The conservation of the Bali Starling is gaining increasing public attention. The species is becoming increasingly rare, necessitating conservation efforts to prevent extinction. This study aims to examine the development of Bali Starling conservation as a tourist destination. A sample of 100 individuals was selected through proportional random sampling. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and literature review using a combined quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis (mixed method). Informants selected were those familiar with the existence of this bird in the village through purposive sampling. The results of the study indicate that the local community strongly agrees with the conservation of the Bali Starling as a new tourist destination with an average score of 4.32 (very good). Community perception of the conservation of the Bali Starling per each criterion shows that the attraction criterion obtained the highest score with an average of 4.38 (very good); accessibility criteria with a score of 4.19 (good); amenities with a score of 4.25 (very good), and ancillary service obtained the lowest score of 3.68 (good). To maximize the development of this conservation, it is necessary to involve pentahelix actors (government, academics, tourism actors, media and local communities). The government is expected to be able to facilitate the development of Bali Starling conservation, and the local community is expected to play an active role in the development of Bali Starling conservation so that Bali Starling conservation can be sustainable.
