Abstract:
Abstract The mechanical properties of fractured rocks in the slip zone are crucial factors affecting the stability of landslides and the initiation of earthquakes. This study uses dolomite samples collected from the slip surface of the Daguangbao landslide, triggered by the Wenchuan earthquake. Through laboratory processing and fracture statistics, a two-dimensional box-counting method was employed for fracture fractal analysis to quantitatively describe the degree of fracture development. The study investigates the fractal characteristics of apparent fractures in dolomite from the Daguangbao landslide and their impact on the mechanical properties of the rock. The results indicate that the fractal dimension of fractures increases linearly with the number of fractures, and the distribution characteristics of fractures significantly affect the fractal dimension. Through uniaxial compression tests and fatigue tests, combined with acoustic emission monitoring, it was found that the higher the fractal dimension of fractures, the lower the compressive strength of the rock. Moreover, there is a power function relationship between the fractal dimension of fractures and the uniaxial compressive strength of the rock. Additionally, different fracture fractal dimensions lead to different stress-strain patterns, including elastic-single peak-collapse type, elastic-multi peak-collapse type, and yield-single peak-collapse type. Finally, the microstructure of the rock fracture surface was analyzed using SEM scanning, revealing the impact of fracture fractal dimension on the rock fracture mechanism. The study shows that the fractal dimension of fractures is an important factor affecting the strength and failure mode of rocks, which is significant for understanding the stability of landslides and the mechanism of earthquake initiation.
