Abstract:
Abstract Barging vessel construction in the shipyard industry often faces discrepancies between material purchases and actual usage, leading to excess inventory, project delays, and cost inefficiencies. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Material Requirement Planning (MRP) in material planning, specifically for three main types of materials: Steel Unequal Angle, Steel Inverted Angle, and Steel Plate, to improve procurement efficiency and inventory control. A mixed method approach was employed, combining descriptive qualitative and applied quantitative methods. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation of a barge construction project, and were analyzed using three MRP techniques: Lot for Lot (LFL), Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), and Periodic Order Quantity (POQ). The findings indicate that the LFL method is most optimal for Steel Unequal Angle and Steel Inverted Angle, while the POQ method is the most cost efficient for Steel Plate. The implementation of MRP has proven effective in enhancing material planning accuracy and cost efficiency, serving as a strategic solution for inventory management systems in the shipbuilding industry.
